Central Home Improvement is a member of the Central Group of Companies (S & D Smith Central Supplies Ltd. Division), which began humbly in 1976 when brothers Steve and Dan Smith began selling wood stoves out of their father’s garage with a Six Thousand Dollar bank loan co-signed by their father.  In 1991, in order for Dan to pursue new and different business interests, Steve bought Dan out; and today, the Central Group is a successful sole-owner organization with 671 associates, operating the following companies:

• Bedrock Holdings Ltd.

S & D Smith Central Supplies Ltd. (operating as Central – Your partner in home improvement)  operates home improvement/building supplies retail stores in seven locations, primarily in northeastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, as well as one store located in Windsor, Nova Scotia.  Of the seven stores, three are full-service large box format with full-service drive thru lumber yards and drive-thru warehouses; two are medium size boxes with full-service drive thru lumberyards; and two are satellite stores operating in small boxes serving outlying communities in relatively close proximity to two larger stores so that services such as customer delivery can be managed both effectively and efficiently.  The seven stores are supported and serviced by a Retail Support Center and Distribution Center located in Lower South River, Antigonish on the Trans Canada Highway.  Additionally, Central Truss, our roof and floor truss manufacturing division operates under the auspices of S & D Smith Central Supplies Ltd. building state-of-the-art roof and floor trusses that meet or exceed all industry standards.  Central Truss supplies trusses for all Central building project customers, as well as to building contractors, commercial businesses, government projects and educational institutions.  Central Kitchens is also operated under the Central retail banner, assembling knock-down kitchens to provide customers with a timely “Express Kitchen” service which promises delivery of a completed kitchen, ready to be installed in the Customer’s home, within two weeks of date of order.
