Central Windsor is at it again!
Last March, 833098 Canadians turned to food banks for help; 32% of the Nova Scotians who were assisted were children. This is why Central was proud to be a part of the 2nd Annual Contractor Hamburger Food Drive, which was started by retired contractor Harlen Schofield last year to give the food banks meat, a food that is crucial for families but which food banks rarely receive.
Yesterday 400 lbs. of hamburger was delivered to the Windsor Community Centre here it was bagged by over two dozen waiting volunteers , all for the local food banks. Among the volunteers were Central Windsor Associates, Municipality of West Hants Warden Richard Dauphinee, Windsor Mayor Paul Beazley, West Hants MLA Chuck Porter, Hantsport Mayor Robbie Zwicker, and representative from both food banks. It was truly a coming together of these communities, all for a great cause.
Thank you for your help and generosity in supporting this, and to all involved in the Annual Contractor Hamburger Food Drive. Together, we're all helping to ensure that none of our community members go hungry.

Who are you fighting for?
Every three minutes, another Canadian will hear the words "you have cancer" for the first time, and the Canadian Cancer Society along with Central wants them to know that they are not alone.
From April 1st to April 27th all Central Home Improvement stores in Nova Scotia will have the opportunity to support the work of the Canadian Cancer Society by selling Daffodil pins in stores. The cost of the pins are $1.00 each.
Daffodil pins will be available throughout the month of April to engage communities and honour those who have been touched by cancer. Money raised through this fundraising initiative will be used to support the Canadian Cancer Society's programs and services in the province of Nova Scotia.
The success of this fundraising and awareness campaign is entirely based on the support from communities across the province - we couldn't do it without you!

Special announcement for 2013.
In 2012, Steve Smith and Central pledged to raise a total of $1,000,000 over a four-year period for the expansion of Daffodil House in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Daffodil Place provides a safe, comfortable and affordable residence for Nova Scotians undergoing cancer treatment in Halifax. While treatment at home is always the preferred option, the reality is that it is often not possible - and that is when Daffodil Place provides an outstanding facility for patients and their families to help mitigate the severe financial hardship that cancer treatment can inflict upon families. Steve has further committed Central to raising an additional $1,000,000 to be donated to local hospitals in Sydney, Antigonish and New Glasgow which provide cancer care, thereby allowing patients to be treated close to home. Throughout the course of this year, we will be unveiling plans for raising these funds, and we will be asking for your support as well. Our goal is simple - we want to assist those struggling with cancer, and their families, to have the best possible care either at home or away, to reduce the financial stress of treatment and, hopefully, make this terribly difficult situation a little less stressful so that everyone's primary focus is on achieving remission and recovery.
Some of Central's most recent major sponsorships include:
• $125,000 to the Pictou County Wellness Centre
• $17,000 to the 2013 Antigonish Highland Games
• $130,000 to the new hard-surface football/soccer field in Antigonish
• $250,000 to the Coady International Institute upcoming expansion
• $5,000 to the Antigonish Poverty Reduction Coalition
